What is CIC (clean intermittent catheterization)?

Clean intermittent catheterization, or CIC, is the process of inserting a sterile catheter to drain the bladder at prescribed intervals throughout the day.

After inserting a catheter into the bladder through the urethra or stoma, it should be thrown away. This keeps the CIC catheterization process hygienic and reduces the risk of urinary tract infections.
