Each year, 180 Medical holds an annual SCI Awareness Day at our office locations. This happens during September, which is also Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.
Why We Honor SCI Awareness Day at 180 Medical
Holding a Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day helps our employees to participate, experience, and give back. We believe sharing awareness helps bring more visibility to the impact of spinal cord injuries on the lives of the 450,000 people living with SCI in the United States.
Additionally, raising awareness offers an opportunity to educate ways to prevent injuries like this and bring more public support for organizations that help support those with SCI and offer them resources and hope.
For SCI Awareness Day at 180 Medical, we all wore green shirts (the official color of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness). This included all of our remote employees and offices across the USA and our corporate headquarters in Oklahoma City, OK.
Learning, Raising Funds, and Giving Back
In addition to learning lots of helpful facts and statistics about spinal cord injuries, 180 Medical employees held a pizza and brownie fundraiser during regular lunch hours. Our 180 Way Committee hosted this event in order to raise funds to benefit a local nonprofit that helps people living with spinal cord injuries.
Also, employees at 180 Medical had the opportunity to volunteer for an hour in a wheelchair. This helps people realize how important accessibility is. Plus, it was a truly unique educational experience. It allowed us to step in the shoes of someone else for just a moment.
The day brought some light to the struggles that people with SCI face every day. This is especially true for those brand new to their wheelchair.
We were all glad to take part in the day’s events.
