180 Medical recently attended the They Will Surf Again event at Zuma Beach, Malibu, California on July 16th, 2011. This event is one in a series presented by the Life Rolls On organization.
This event’s purpose is to show people with physical disabilities such as spinal cord injuries that they can still experience fun physical activity!
They Will Surf Again at Zuma Beach
This event helped nearly 50 people with spinal cord injuries, including quadriplegics and paraplegics, experience the joy of surfing again.
All kinds of equipment were made available to the participants, like special adaptive surfboards with handles and padding and rolling beach chairs. A major radio station and ABC News covered the event. A few celebrities also made an appearance, like actor Jason Lewis and singer Jason Mraz.
One surfer, in particular, stood out to us. His name was Hunter, and he couldn’t have been more than 5 years old. He loved surfing, and he had the biggest smile on his face while riding the waves.
Some of the surfers got the full surfing experience, complete with wipe-outs! Everyone kept a positive attitude and had a blast.
We look forward to the next Life Rolls On: We Will Surf Again event!
