180 Medical, a national supplier of catheters, ostomy, and incontinence supplies, is one of the Best Places to Work in Oklahoma! We love spotlighting our positive, hard-working employees. This month, we’re happy to feature Chelsea, a 180 Medical Billing Specialist.
What are some of your main job duties as a Billing Specialist at 180 Medical?
Billing Specialists are responsible for a wide range of duties involving our customers’ health insurance plans, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield. We file claims daily as well as appeal claims we have had problems being paid on. We make sure that every insurance payment is posted to each customer’s account. This maintains accuracy on our customers’ monthly statements.
I specialize in resolutions in the Billing Department, which involves working on and appealing older claims.
What do you love most about 180 Medical?
180 Medical is one of the few companies I know that genuinely cares both about their customers and their employees. I love knowing that we are helping to make a positive difference in our customers’ lives. The environment that we work in is happy and positive. It’s a job that you wake up in the morning excited to come to work.
What would you tell someone thinking about applying for a job at 180 Medical?
If you want to work somewhere that you can make a difference in others’ lives, I encourage you to apply. Not only is it a very rewarding job, but we also tend to have some fun as well! I have been here for two years, and I have loved every day of it!
What’s one of your favorite stories of how you helped one of our customers?
I was on the phone with one of our customers recently. We were having issues with her insurance processing the claims correctly which had caused her to receive a large bill. When she called, she was initially very concerned about this.
We worked on the issue, and then later in our conversation when we were able to get the insurance problem straightened out, she broke down in tears and expressed to me how thankful she is for our company. She said she is so grateful to know that we are such an honest company that’s always willing to help her with all questions she has regarding her supplies or insurance problems.
When we finished our conversation, all of her questions were answered, and it seemed like she was no longer worried about the issue. It’s a nice feeling to help others like that, and it makes me feel proud to work at a company that our customers look at so highly.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, then I came to Oklahoma to attend college at Heartland Baptist Bible College for three years. I met my husband while I was here in college, and that is how I have ended up staying here in Oklahoma. In my spare time, I love camping, hiking, going to the lake, and traveling!
Thank you to Chelsea and all of the employees that make up our Billing Department, each of whom plays such an important part in our daily operations at 180 Medical.
