Meet 2015 180 Medical Scholarship Recipient, Kanbi Knippling
Since birth, Kanbi has had spina bifida. The doctors told her parents she likely wouldn’t make it. However, she fought hard and survived her first major surgery as an infant. Since then, she has gone through more than 40 surgeries.
Despite her hardships, the 2015 180 Medical Scholarship Recipient Kanbi has maintained her schoolwork and grades. She achieved the honor of being on the Dean’s List for all four of her semesters so far at college. Plus, she serves on the Brookings Human Rights Committee as a student representative. She is also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, Psi Chi, and Phi Upsilon Omicron.
Today, Kanbi is a Junior at South Dakota State University, where she’s working toward the goal of becoming a certified child life specialist. She hopes to help children and their families cope with illness and disability.
Kanbi Knippling has truly exemplified a dedication to giving back throughout her life. Given her life experiences as a child with spina bifida, we know she’ll be wonderful in her future career!
